Yeah, the 5% is a great marketing plug, BUT the categories rotate and it’s just not worth it at all for me. I don’t know for sure, but the average person probably ends up making very little more than 1% cashback overall on all their spend on a product like this. I prefer my steady 2% cashback card on ALL spend (Fidelity Amex or Schwab Visa).

The 5% Cashback Bonus is great if you are already using Discover Card or if you purchase heavily in those categories during each quarter. However, I agree with you, keeping track of the bonuses involves work, and it is a hassle to bring multiple credit cards, therefore I have been using my Fidelity Amex (2% cashback) as my primary credit card, and have my Citibank Dividend Mastercard as backup.
